THE ART OF BRIDAL CARE

Your Wedding Dress Deserves Specialist Cleaning

A wedding gown is a construction of layers: Silk, lace, tulle, boning and intricate beadwork each require a different approach. Ordinary cleaning methods can put delicate fabrics and embellishments at risk. BLANC — Specialist Care for Every Bridal Gown.

Visible stains. Invisible damage.

A single cycle that suits the outer silk may damage the beadwork, so each layer is assessed on its own terms before any method is chosen.

Champagne, wine, perspiration and body oils can leave marks that darken over time, even when a gown looks clean after the wedding.

Treating Stains Before They Set

Professional wedding dress cleaning helps address these residues before they become harder to treat.

Three things guide every clean

Three things decide how carefully a gown has to be treated before any cleaning begins:
  • Fabric and construction: Each layer is assessed before treatment.
  • Visible stains: Marks are identified and treated individually.
  • Invisible residues: Areas prone to perspiration and oil staining receive careful attention.
The sooner you arrange specialist cleaning for your gown after your wedding, the better the opportunity to address fresh stains before long-term storage.
The Process

How BLANC cleans a wedding gown

BLANC’s bridal gown cleaning process is guided by your dress’s fabric, beadwork, lace, structure and condition. From the first inspection to the final hand finish, every stage is chosen with care.

Wet cleaning and liquid CO₂ are both used, with biodegradable detergents for most gowns and liquid CO₂ for the most delicate or heavily structured pieces. Temperature and agitation are set to the most fragile element: if the beadwork cannot tolerate a setting, that setting is not used, even on the silk it is attached to.
  • Inspect and record. Condition logged before treatment.
  • Match the method. Chosen for the most fragile element.
  • Finish by hand. Shaped section by section, never machine-pressed
A machine applies the same pressure across the whole garment. A specialist works section by section, shaping the bodice and settling the skirt layers. This is the stage that returns the gown to how it looked before it was worn.

PRESERVATION & LONG-TERM CARE

Wedding Dress Preservation for the Years Ahead

Cleaning is only the beginning. BLANC’s wedding dress preservation service prepares your gown for long-term storage, helping protect it against avoidable creasing, light exposure and moisture-related damage.

Thoughtful care for a treasured gown

A dress stored for a season can tolerate some risk. A dress meant to be opened in twenty or thirty years cannot, because small errors compound over that time.
  • Acid-free tissue. Supports every fold and prevents creasing.
  • Breathable box. Guards against moisture and light. Never plastic.
  • Stable storage. Cool, dark and kept that way for decades.
Stored correctly, a preserved gown can be opened decades later in wearable condition, ready for a daughter, a vow renewal, or simply to be kept.

Chelsea

“I visited Blanc following a recommendation from The Wedding Club bridal shop and they didn't disappoint! I had two wedding dresses to be altered and Joseph did an amazing job on both. one was a princess style gown and the other a slim fitting style. I expected to have a few fittings before the dresses were right but I ended up having one fitting and when I went back to try them, the dresses fitted me perfectly. He even added a wrist strap to one of them while I waited which was brilliant. Highly recommend Joseph at Blanc if you're looking for wedding dress alterations.”

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

As soon as possible after the wedding, ideally within a few weeks. Perspiration, champagne and other invisible residue oxidise over time and become harder to treat the longer they sit.

Every gown is quoted individually after inspection, because construction, fabric, embellishment and condition vary significantly between dresses. Bring the dress to our Chelsea studio, 85 Lower Sloane Street, SW1W 8DA, where our bridal specialists are based, or arrange a collection from your London address for an accurate quote.

Yes. Vintage and heirloom gowns are assessed individually, and we advise honestly on what is recoverable before any work begins. Restoration may include cleaning, stabilising weakened fabric and repairing damaged lace or beadwork.

Turnaround depends on the construction and condition of the gown. Simpler dresses are typically completed within one to two weeks. Heavily beaded, multi-layered or vintage gowns may take longer. Timing is confirmed at the inspection.

Stored correctly, yes. Acid-free tissue, a breathable box and a cool, dark, stable environment prevent the yellowing and fabric breakdown that standard storage causes. Plastic bags and cardboard boxes are the two mistakes we see most often.

Yes. Hemming, taking in, bustle additions and repairs to damaged lace or beadwork are carried out by skilled hands. If a vintage or heirloom gown needs restoration before it can be worn again, we assess what is recoverable and advise honestly on the outcome. Our alterations and repairs service covers gowns as well as everyday garments.
